Pass this stage's gate (First dollar from a stranger) and you earn your First Dollar.

Connect Stripe Payment Links or Checkout (or Gumroad / Lemon Squeezy) so a stranger can pay in under 2 minutes, and test it with a real $1. A parent or guardian owns the payment account, because Stripe and Gumroad require the account holder to be 18 or older.

Why it matters

Everything up to this lesson has been about words: your offer, your price, your pitch. This lesson is about plumbing: the actual pipe that moves money from a stranger’s card into an account, safely and quickly. If that pipe is broken or clunky, none of the words matter, because a buyer who has to fight with a bad checkout for five minutes usually just leaves.

Here is the part that is different from every other lesson: the payment account itself. Stripe, Gumroad, and Lemon Squeezy all require the account holder to be 18 or older, so a parent or guardian owns the payment account, not you. That is not optional and it is not a workaround. It is the actual rule these companies enforce, because a payment account is a real financial and legal responsibility. You will still build the offer, set the price, and run the checkout day to day; your parent is the account holder of record.

Once the account exists, the technical part is fast. Stripe Payment Links or a Gumroad product page can go live in well under an hour, and testing it with a real $1 payment (then refunding it) proves the whole path works before a stranger ever tries it. A checkout a stranger can complete in under two minutes is the last piece standing between your offer and your First Dollar.

What to watch for

Get Paid with Stripe in 100 Seconds

  • Watch for the big picture: what Stripe actually is, and where your money goes after someone pays.
  • Notice the mention of fees: a small percentage gets taken out of every payment, which matters for your pricing.
  • Skip trying to memorize every term; you only need Payment Links or Checkout for this lesson, not the full platform.

Start with Claude

Once a parent has created and logged into the payment account, use Claude to walk through the technical setup with you: reading dashboards, understanding settings, and troubleshooting errors. Claude should help you understand what you’re doing, not just tell you which buttons to click without explanation.

I'm setting up Stripe Payment Links (or Gumroad) for the Sell stage of Make First. A parent or guardian owns the account since I'm under 18. I want to connect it to my offer: [describe what I'm selling and the price].

Walk with me step by step, but ask me what I'm seeing on screen before telling me what to click next. I want to understand the setup, not just follow blind instructions. Help me think through what to name the product, what the receipt should say, and how to test with a real $1 payment safely. If I hit an error, ask me to describe exactly what it says before you guess at the fix.

Parent note

Stripe, Gumroad, and Lemon Squeezy all require the account holder to be 18 or older, so you, the parent or guardian, need to create and own the payment account for this lesson; your teen cannot do this step alone. Sit down together, use your own information to open the account, and then let your teen run the day-to-day setup and testing from there.

Make

Live checkout on your site, plus one successful test payment (then refunded) with a receipt email as proof it works end to end.
