About

Why Make First exists

Make First exists because shipping something real, with AI, is now faster than writing a plan about it. A teenager can do the whole thing in one semester.

The name

Two meanings, one idea

Make your first business

Not a school project or a simulation. A real business with a real stranger who paid for it, built and shipped before your teen turns 18.

Making comes first

With AI, shipping something real to strangers is the research, the MVP, and the pitch deck, all at once. No fundraising, no business plan, no permission needed to start.

Where it comes from

Built inside a one-person AI venture studio

The Fractary is a one-person AI venture studio: one founder, working with AI agents and a stack he controls, building real ventures. Make First takes what the studio does every day and makes it teachable.

Josh built The Fractary to run ventures with AI instead of a team. Once that started working, the next question was obvious: could a teenager do this too, at their age, before they ever needed a resume or a college essay to prove it? Make First is the answer he built so his own kids could find out.

Principles

Coached, not done for you

The AI cofounder asks questions, checks evidence, and points at the next smallest step. It never writes the product, the posts, or the sales messages for your teen.

Real gates

Every stage of the Path ends with a pass/fail gate that only passes with real evidence: a URL, a stranger, a payment. There is no partial credit.

Every claim on this site stays true

If something isn't built yet, it carries a status badge or says so in plain words. We would rather say "in the works" than oversell what exists today.

Your teen owns everything they make

Make First is a program, not a stakeholder. It takes no equity and no revenue share in whatever your teen builds.

Six stages, real gates, and an AI cofounder that coaches instead of doing the work for your teen.
