Build in Public: Your Audience Engine

Why it matters

“Build in public” sounds like it means posting your wins so people are impressed. It actually means something more useful: showing your real process, including the parts that are not going well yet, so people get a reason to care before you ever ask them to buy anything.

The habit is documenting, not creating. Creating means sitting down with a blank page trying to think of something clever to say — that runs out fast. Documenting means writing down what you already did today: what you shipped, what broke, what a customer said, what you’re trying next. You already have the material; you just have to write it down and post it.

Three simple templates make this repeatable: a build log (what you shipped), a lesson learned (what went wrong and what you’d do differently), and a customer story (something real someone told you). Ten posts over two weeks, using those three shapes on rotation, builds the habit without requiring a new idea every single day.

This matters for Grow because an audience compounds. Every honest post is a small trust deposit with people who might buy from you later, refer a friend, or just watch what you build next. It will feel slow and quiet at first — that is normal, not a sign it is not working.

Use Claude to plan your posting habit and get feedback on drafts you’ve already written — never to write the posts themselves. Your voice, in your own words, is the entire point of building in public.
