Why Make First

Why it matters

For most of history, if you wanted to start a business, you needed money, connections, or years of experience you didn’t have yet. You wrote a plan, showed it to adults who might say yes, and waited. That isn’t as true anymore, and this course exists because it isn’t as true anymore.

With AI as a working partner, you can research a problem, build a working product, and show it to a real stranger in the same week — sometimes the same day. The plan isn’t the valuable part anymore. The thing that’s live, that a stranger can actually use, is the valuable part. That’s what “make first” means: build the real thing before you build the pitch for it.

This lesson opens a 12-week path that ends with something you made, live on the internet, that strangers have used and maybe paid for. You won’t know today whether your idea is good. Nobody does, including adults with decades of experience. The only way to find out is to make something and put it in front of people who have no reason to be nice to you.

The pledge you write today isn’t a business plan. It’s a promise to yourself about what “done” looks like in 12 weeks, and who the first stranger will be. Everything after this lesson is about keeping that promise.

What to watch for

• Notice how short this clip is — it’s a mindset reset, not a tutorial.
• Skip trying to copy Jobs’s specific career path; the point is the permission, not the biography.

If it starts drafting sentences before it understands what you actually want to build, tell it to slow down and ask more questions first.
